We had an incredible time together in September, as a large group of people gathered together to learn effective ways to promote wellness for themselves and their families, as well as build a healthier community here in the Lakeway area. If you weren’t able to join us, I wanted to share some of the highlights from the information on trauma recovery that I was able to present.
Our soul is childlike from the wounds of trauma we have experienced in life and can be very controlling and reactive out of fear. From our soul, we develop some unhealthy ways of coping with stress and pain. Some examples would be denial, blaming, controlling, isolating, unforgiveness, people-pleasing and worry just to name a few. Now we are all in this same condition at times because we function out of hurt and brokenness and we were all raised by hurt, broken parents.
Our Spirit has the ability to connect to God through love which is the highest frequency of life. Fear and love have very different frequencies and therefore different effects on my body that carry those energetic frequencies.
So when I am responding to life’s stressors out of fear (often different situations in life trigger old wounds of trauma) such as worrying:
-Fearful of not making good decisions
-Fearful of what others think about me
-Fear of what the future holds
Then fear has power over me and I’m reacting to unresolved pain from trauma that I’m carrying. My body is imbalanced by all of the negative energy of worry- keeping my nervous system in fight, flight or freeze mode all the time.
-My digestive system may be imbalanced because of the anxiety stored in my stomach.
-Anger and unforgiveness can cause imbalances in the gallbladder and circulation system. (I can’t tell you the number of people who tell me they don’t have a gallbladder anymore!)
-Defensiveness and holding onto hurts can cause imbalances in the lungs or the large intestines.
We can’t separate the different parts of who we are, it is all connected. What effects the body also effects the soul and spirit. We must heal from this deeper root level to get the long term healing from trauma.
Steps in Pursuit
Now we are going to practice using some techniques that help bring realignment to life and healing:
- Emotional Realignment is a technique that combines our intention or conscious focus and body frequencies, using acupoints to release some common emotions. As you place your hand on the area of the body, focus on releasing the negative emotions.
- Frustration- gallbladder (Think of a recent frustration)
- Worry- stomach (Trusting that things are going to begin moving in a positive direction)
- Powerless-liver (Think about something that is causing powerless feelings currently in your life.)
- Shame-kidneys (feelings of shame are more than I made a bad decision or something bad has happened to me; it speaks messages to our soul that I’m a bad person. There is something wrong with me. No matter how hard I try, I will never be good enough)
- Emotional Freedom Technique uses tapping on the acupoints, under your collarbones, tap with your fingertips as you say these affirming statements.
Collarbone Statements-
“My whole self is willing to release worry.”
“My soul releases the fear I feel about the future.”
You can plug in any affirming statement that you need to reinforce.
- Emotional Brain Rebalancing uses bilateral stimulation of the brain to bring the left side (reasoning, analytical, factual, verbal) in balance with the right side (emotional, creative, visual)
Butterfly tapping– which is crossing your arms over your chest and tapping back and forth on your arms, is a great way to use this bilateral brain rebalancing. Tapping on the knees, when your child is sharing a difficult part of their day also stimulates both sides of the brain in a helpful way.
I’m praying that these tools will bless you and your family as you pursue wellness and abundant life!
Continue the Pursuit,
Denise
